Eat near a station: exits, luggage, kitchen hours and boarding time

A short distance on a map can conceal another station exit, crossings and stairs. Include luggage and the route back to the platform in the meal plan.

The essentials

Choose a route from your actual station exit, retain a boarding margin and tell the restaurant when you must leave. Check kitchen times, luggage space and booking before leaving the station.

  • Identify the correct exit.
  • Keep time for the platform and boarding.
  • Choose a meal for the useful time available.
  • Ask where luggage can be placed.

Measure from the correct exit

Large stations have separate halls and distant exits. Check where you arrive and where the restaurant is. The route may include stairs, an underpass or a difficult crossing with luggage.

Include checks, movement across the station and the platform access on your return. Straight-line distance omits those stages. Add a margin for children or bulky bags.

Check before confirming
  • Station exit
  • Suitable walking route
  • Boarding margin

Match the meal to the connection

A short connection may suit a coffee, counter or simple formula; a longer pause can allow a seated meal. Ask how long the intended service usually takes.

The kitchen may close between lunch and dinner while the bar stays open. Confirm the last food order and menu rather than using the venue’s broad opening hours.

Arrange the group and bags

Small dining rooms may have no suitable luggage space. Ask beforehand if you have several bags, a pushchair or a group. Bags must not block other guests or service routes.

Book and explain a critical timetable. Keep the address, confirmation and a closer alternative if your train or route changes. Give the time you need to leave the table, not only the train departure.

Common questions

What margin should I leave before a train?

Calculate the full route from table to platform, including checks and luggage; no single margin fits every station.

Can I keep a suitcase beside the table?

Ask about the room and venue’s rules, especially with several bags.

Do station restaurants serve all day?

Proximity does not establish continuous kitchen service. Confirm the actual menu and times.
